The final chapter in the award-winning and bestselling Hearts of the Anemoi series…
She’s the only one who can give him the strength to save them all…
Annalise Fallston made peace with postponing her big-city dreams to care for her ill father, but lately she’s been filled with a restlessness not even her beloved painting dispels. Worse, the colors don’t speak to her as they always have, and all her efforts produce dark, foreboding images of a dangerous man and a terrifying future.
Devlin Eston, black-souled son of the evil Anemoi Eurus, is the only one who can thwart his father’s plan to overthrow the Supreme God of Wind and Storms. But first, Dev must master the unstable powers he’s been given. Distrusted and shunned by his own divine family, he never expected to find kindness and passion in the arms of a mortal.
But Devlin’s love puts Annalise in the path of a catastrophic storm, and in the final Armageddon showdown between the Anemoi and Eurus, sacrifices will be made, hearts broken, and lives changed forever…or lost.
I hate to come to the last book in a series I have enjoyed. I often find myself putting it off. Once I know what happens it can’t be unlearned.
That is why it was hard to start the last book in the Hearts of the Anemoi Series. But., once I started reading it it was very difficult to put down.
This is a fast paced story with many highs and lows, turnabouts and recoveries, followed by enormous losses. Seriously I had a box of tissues at my disposal for the last quarter of the book. But it’s not depressing; change is hard and sometimes tragic.
Laura brings us some complicated characters, especially gods who suffer, gods who can die. Even gods who don’t know they are gods. It’s hard to put the concept of a “god” and mortality together and it is really interesting to do in our society with it’s Judeo-Christian roots and its omniscient, omnipotent, immortal God. Even other religion’s gods have a tendency towards immortality and invincibility.
I’m not sure what this means to Laura, whether it is part of a message or not, or if Laura has a message. It may be an ecological message. I had a feeling Laura was talking about being greener throughout.
It’s a very nice love story as well. Annalise is not a shy, non-sexual innocent, but she has been too busy, too shut away for a relationship. Devlin has rather literally been on the run, he is such a sad god.
I think you’ll be shocked at what Laura does in this final chapter of the Hearts of the Anemoi series. Even for gods, actions have consequences. I was really amazed at how far Laura goes. And, she still has the quality of sincerity in her work. She doesn’t strike false notes in action or dialogue. Ans, her writing has become more and more sophisticated as she has moved through her career.
This is really good stuff! You’ll want to read the entire series before reading this one though. But you definitely want to read the whole series (the first three books are currently only ninety -nine cents!). That’s such a great deal I am giving away one of the bundle and one copy of East of Ecstasy, all for Kindle (Amazon US) or Nook (B & N US) to one winner.
