Got Bugs? Sharon Lynn Fisher’s Top Five Reasons to Fall for a Manti, plus Giveaway

Sharon Lynn Fisher Author PhotoGuest Post Section Label 2

My Guest today is Sharon Lynn Fisher whose previous book was GHOST PLANET a surprising human off-world science fiction novel involving incorporeal aliens who take over the identities of deceased settlers.

Sharon is a “Romance Writers of America RITA Award finalist and a three-time RWA Golden Heart Award finalist, living in the Pacific Northwest. Sharon writes books for the geeky at heart—sci-fi flavored stories full of adventure and romance—and battles writerly angst with baked goods, Irish tea, and champagne. Her works include Ghost Planet (2012), The Ophelia Prophecy (2014), and Echo 8 (2014). You can visit her online at”
Adapted from official PR distributed bio.

Her new book is about a post-apocalyptic world where humans have been hoisted by their own genetically-engineered petard. This was an interesting idea, and certainly sounds timely, given advances in the understanding of DNA and so when I was offered a spot on her tour I snapped it up and asked her to tell me why one would fall for one of her genetically engineered warriors — part Praying Mantis!!  Now I am not a big fan of insects of any variety }}shudders{{  but I have to admit she had me at “He drives a fancy hybrid.”  Maybe bugs aren’t so bad…..

Back of Book:

Our world is no longer our own.

We engineered a race of superior fighters–the Manti, mutant humans with insect-like abilities. Twenty-five years ago they all but destroyed us.

In Sanctuary, some of us survive. Eking out our existence. Clinging to the past.

Some of us intend to do more than survive.

Asha and Pax—strangers and enemies—find themselves stranded together on the border of the last human city, neither with a memory of how they got there.

Asha is an archivist working to preserve humanity’s most valuable resource—information—viewed as the only means of resurrecting their society.

Pax is Manti, his Scarab ship a menacing presence in the skies over Sanctuary, keeping the last dregs of humanity in check.

But neither of them is really what they seem, and what humanity believes about the Manti is a lie.

With their hearts and fates on a collision course, they must unlock each other’s secrets and forge a bond of trust before a rekindled conflict pushes their two races into repeating the mistakes of the past.

When Asha St. John, one of a small pocket of survivors in the Utah desert, is picked up by an enemy ship, the last thing she expects to do is fall in love. But there’s something about the ship’s captain …

Top 5 Reasons to Fall in Love with a Manti Prince

manti-Romeo & Juliet5. Star in a Romeo & Juliet story. Human scientists created the Manti, then treated them like second-class citizens. The Manti struck back by engineering a virus that all but wiped out humanity. Asha is human; Pax is Manti. You don’t get more star-crossed than that.

4. Travel to exotic locales. Asha had never left Sanctuary. From the time she was old enough to walk, her parents had forbidden it. But abandoned on the edge of the city, picked up by Pax and his sister, her whole word is about to change. From discovering a new and deadly species of wasp in the boggy west of Ireland, to fleeing through the ancient underground of the fantastical Manti capital in Granada, Spain, she’ll have plenty to tell her friends back home —if she ever sees them again.

3. He drives a fancy hybrid. Pax’s ship, Banshee, is part bug, part plant, part artificial intelligence. From the moment Asha is forced onboard, the ship begins to develop protective impulses, eventually evolving into the displaced human woman’s only ally.

2. He has interesting friends and relatives. Pax’s sister has wings and spiked forearms. His ship is a living, breathing, reasoning being. His father is a war hero, and elected leader of the conquering race. His stepmother is the founder of a fanatical, anti-science religious movement. And they’re all headed for a family reunion they’ll never forget.

1. Bug biology has its benefits. Pax is stronger and faster than his human creators. His oversensitivity to pheromones causes him to target Asha from the moment he sees her, while special bonding hormones urge him to protect her. She is the last woman he can love, and the only one he wants. Enemy or not, he will never forsake her. Not even when duty calls her to betray him.
