Rachel Davis will do anything to get her sister out of a bad relationship with her fiancé. Even if it involves a few fibs, a little breaking-and-entering, and blackmailing the fiance potential boss, Charles, for his help. So what if the handsome Charles happens to be a vampire?
Charles Wright has found the perfect way to trap the man threatening his brother’s wife: cozy up to him, get invited along on the skiing trip, and then search for incriminating evidence. How much better that audacious but gorgeous Rachel is just as eager to nail the bastard. As far as he’s concerned, there’s nothing wrong with a little blackmail between two consenting adults. Especially when it’s time for Rachel to pay up.

This is a cute novella where interpersonal communication is NOT the biggest problem for the love interests. Well, there’s a bit of it, but it is other things that threaten to keep Rachel and Charles apart. Instead it’s about how two sisters have reacted to a childhood event. Their personalities have been affected differently but that trauma has affected how they live and love.
. Kristen is the somewhat impulsive one. It has some of the Sense and Sensibility thing going for it. It has made the sisters close as adults. Some of us don’t have much in the way of family, but the ideal is of course a close and happy group. I doubt many have the ideal. Some, like Kristen and Rachel achieve a modicum but the trauma still affects them. One is clingy and the other is commitment phobic. HOW ABOUT YOU: Do you have commitment issues, or how did/do you react to potential partners?
Have you ever noticed that Rachel and Charles contain all the same letters except for that “s”?
The book is the second in a series and while this story line can nearly stand on its own, the back story and world building flow over from the first book DON’T BITE THE BRIDESMAID. You would probably enjoy this without book one but it would make it a richer experience to read them in order.
Tiffany writes nice and natural feeling, or maybe comfortable feeling, dialogue that rings true. Rachel is snarky, but not too snarky. When she says something she doesn’t back pedal or feel guilty which is hard to not do. Half the time if I say something a bit assertive or harsh I end up taking it back and blaming myself.
The story telling itself — the writers voice also feels natural; as if you and a friend are sharing funny stories over lunch.
Throughout the book the characters are surprised by a person or a turn of events, or their emotional response to something. When they are surprised we are usually surprised as well. If not it’s because the reader usually sees what’s in a character’s heart before they do.
The mystery is a little anticlimactic. which bugged me a smidgen. The concept of “blackmailing a vampire” is pretty funny, after all who would believe you and with their extra speed and strength they could hurt you.
But other than that I think this book or both of them are a great deal and a fabulous vacation read or beach read!
