There’s a budding romance on Butler Mountain, but in the hornets nest known as the Abbott family, keeping a secret is no easy feat…
Colton Abbott and Lucy Mulvaney have a secret. Colton’s nosy siblings have begun to put the pieces together, but it’s not like Lucy to keep things from those closest to her—especially her best friend, Cameron, who recently moved to Vermont to live with her true love, Will. But Lucy isn’t about to tell Cam she’s having a fling…with Will’s brother.
Flitting between New York and Vermont is exhausting, so Lucy is looking forward to a long weekend with Colton at the Abbott family lake house in Burlington. Too bad Will and Cameron have the same idea, and once Colton and Lucy are caught red-handed (and red-faced), will their clandestine romance lose its appeal or will their secret beginnings be the start of something lasting? https://marieforce.com/
Well she looked at me, and I, I could see
That before too long I’d fall in love with her.
The Beatles, I Saw Her Standing There
There are two aspects (at least) to this story:
Opposites Attracting: She’s Metropolitan, He’s Country. She is in NYC with a business to run and he’s in Vermont tapping trees for maple syrup. They both have lives outside of the milieu of the other’s. With serious logistics issues, can these two make it work? And is the conflict really about logistics? Lucy is super responsible. keeping her family together and while dependable, and Colton isn’t exactly an extrovert up on his mountain.
And then there’s the secrecy issues. With a well meaning, lovingly nosy family and her best friend being with his brother keeping it secret seems the best way to prevent it from getting serious; as if not telling the people who matter then the relationship won’t matter.
But, it’s like the song, once they see each other, that’s it. There’s no one else for either of them. And they get along like trees on fire. In other words, with a lot of heat. To solve their issues they need to get creative.
There’s a lot of humor too. Colton gets to go to an adult products trade show. That’s pretty funny all on it’s own. And, the story also had poignant moments, and times when Lucy behaves like a dolt.
This is another thoroughly enjoyable entry in the Green Mountain series. It’s sexy, hopeful and full of heart warming stuff. You’ll want to move to Vermont! And listen to the Beatles. And meet the wonderful family, and make them adopt you…
I LOVE THIS SERIES!! Highly recommend.
