About the Book

The highly anticipated follow-up to the bestselling book Shake, Shake Puppies also features 61 dogs caught mid-shake—only this time they’re even more adorable and laughter inducing.

Shake Puppies features two images of each dog placed side by side to capture the action of the shake—the tousled hair, the distorted expression, the flying water droplets. The photographs capture the dogs in the most candid of moments and were shot against brightly colored backdrops to make them fresh, lively, and inviting.

Shake Puppies includes a roster listing the names, ages, and breeds of the dogs, as well as behind-the-scenes images that take readers into the studio with Carli Davidson and the smiling, playful pups. In the accompanying text, she offers never-before-shared insight into her creative process and reminds readers of the importance of animal adoption and quality pet care.

Funny and heartwarming Shake Puppies is a colorful assemblage of photographs that are startling and endearing, revealing and irresistible.

This highly anticipated follow-up to the bestselling book Shake features more than 130 photographs of adorable puppies. This brilliant, brightly colored collection truly captures the squishy cuteness of a puppy—its tousled fur, floppy ears, and endearing expression—in the moment when our tiny, wide-eyed companion is mid-shake.
In addition to its vibrant photographs, Shake Puppies includes a message of support for animal rescue and creating an environment in which all dogs, young or old, can succeed in their new homes. Training tips are included to help dog owners achieve this goal. There is also a roster listing the names and ages of all the dogs featured, as well as a peek into Carli Davidson’s studio.

What could be more adorable than the puppies in this book?

This is the PERFECT holiday gift for ANY dog lover on your list. And, especially for a hard cover, the list price is good, but the online retail prices are really amazing.

I don’t generally do non-fiction, photographic books, but, puppies can certainly be better friends than a human lover is.

  • A puppy will never break your heart, although he might eat some shoes and pee on the floor. I’ve know some guys who are less well housebroken than a puppy.
  • You never have to worry about how much you weigh with your dog or whether you look hot. They don’t care!
  • They won’t steal your debit/credit cards.
  • Whatever you make for dinner is okay by them.

This is a blog that looks at love stories,  so a book about puppies is actually spot on, because for many people, the love of a pet is one of the most important parts of their lives!

Davidson’s photographs of the dogs shaking their heads really capture the essence of each and every dog in the book. The selection of animals is fantastic, the dogs are all different types and their “pup-sonalities” really show beautifully in the pics.

According to a interview with the author the book was inspired by her friend’s second graders who, when asked, said they wanted to see puppies and color!  While not the focus of current events in the world, Davidson likes making books about animals because she loves knowing they will make people smile.

And, she says doing the book was almost medicinal — “spending the day overdosing on cuteness!”

A huge supporter of animal rescue, during photography on the book, Davidson adopted an older dog she was fostering, an eight year-old schnauzer with an elderly owner who was no longer able to care for him.  The dog clicked with the other animals and family and so she kept him.

But as she did the photography, it was hard for Davidson to see the puppies in shelters and not take them home. Understanding the responsibility a new puppy is for a household she managed to stop herself. ANother issue she faced was watching the puppy owners struggle with their new pet’s behaviors.  She writes some great ideas for painless puppy training at the end of the book.

This is the perfect holiday gift, even a great hostess gift for the animal lover on your list!
It would also be a great thing to bring an ailing friend or relative, as long as they wouldn’t be hurt by laughing.
I can’t think of anyone I know who could look at these pictures and frown.
