The New York Times bestselling author of The Billionaire and the Virgin returns with a tale of Shakespearean-style seduction…

Edie’s an overbearing cat behaviorist who’s not big on people. Magnus is a newly-rich game developer who likes to be in control. When the two of them meet at Gretchen and Hunter’s masquerade engagement party, the loathing is mutual. Unfortunately for them—and everyone else—they’re in the wedding party together and must deal with each other for the next few months.

But when Magnus’s younger brother falls for Edie’s sister, he begs for his brother’s help in concocting a plan to win her over. If Magnus can keep the prickly Edie occupied, his brother will have time to woo Edie’s sister. Of course, Magnus isn’t interested in the slightest, but Edie is…intriguing. And stubborn. And smart. And sexy. And they might have more in common than they thought.

Before long, it becomes a challenge between the two of them to see who will be tamed first. But how’s Edie going to react when she finds out that Magnus is using her? And how’s Magnus going to handle the fact that he’s fallen for a cat lady?

My Take Oblong

You know the part of  Shakespeare’s  THE TAMING OF THE SHREW that is misogynistic crap?  Where Petruchio basically abuses Katerina into being a pliable and complacent wife? Yeah, most of the play?

Well all that crap is gone from this semi-classic based retelling of a love story where one guy discovers that inside the hard shell exterior of the cranky, cat lady, Edie, lurks a hot and gooey, problem solving and understanding cat lady with a great body.

As they get closer he grows into a better person and she grows into someone who is getting sex on a regular basis, as well as love.
Now, being a crazy cat lady myself I am naturally going to harbor a soft side for this story.  Edie understands cats, and rescues the un-adoptable older cats or cats with medical issues.
It is interesting that Beauty and the Beast featured a disfigured kidnapping victim and this story featured a woman disabled by a skiing accident and then hobbled by a manipulative sister.

On the other hand, Magnus is hobbled by his own beliefs that he is the grunt and that his manipulative, slacker brother is the creative genius. We’re all imperfect and often hobbled by some mental or physical issue.

It is hard to imagine neither character can see their sibling’s are manipulating them, but so it is.

Edie likes it when Magnus talks dirty to her. Good thing, because this story shares that with other Jessica Clare novels. If you do not like dirty talk these are not the stories for you.  And since there’s a lot of sex, there’s a lot of the dirty talk.

This was my favorite in the Billionaires Boys Club and the Billionaires and Bridesmaids series, so far.  I liked how hard Magnus works, how open he is and how his natural compassion develops through his relationship with Edie.  I thought Edie was a little too sensitive to a particular thing in the story, but her friends from BEAUTY AND THE BILLIONAIRE help her out.

Magnus’s solution in the end would have made me forgive him almost any sin. While the way the two get together is contrived, the characters are both really vulnerable and impossible not to love.  I really enjoyed this entry in the Billionaires and Bridesmaids series.
