Someone’s out to ruin Gretchen’s happy-ever-after on the eve before the big day. Can she trust Hunter, the man she’s given her heart to? And can she rely on her sister Daphne (the least reliable person of all!) to help her salvage things? Or is this marriage going to go down in flames before Gretchen and Hunter ever get to the altar?

My Take Oblong Shaped

I read the eBook for this and then listened to the audio book

I like Christmas wedding stories because they celebrate bringing people together, strengthening and creating relationships.   They also have an historical reality since people often gathered for the holidays it kind killed of  two birds with one bouquet.

In this series, Gretchen, Daphne and Audrey are sisters.  Audrey and Daphne are twins but Daphne’s struggle with addiction led her sisters, especially Audrey, to cut her off.  Gretchen is the oldest sister but Audrey is the most conventional one. She got married in one of the earlier books and baby number two is on the way.  Gretchen is a bridezilla with the caterers so she is ending up baking everything herself. It’s kind of  crazy!

There’s a sub-plot of a special wedding gift that is sweet but implausible, as are many of the logistics for the wedding.

Usually, Clare’s books are chock full of sheet time, but this one is pretty sedate for her.

Really it focuses on love and redemption – both good holiday themes – and on Daphne’s working on herself with a really strict personal coach on whom she is crushing.  This story line has two arcs: rekindling her relationship with family and kindling her relationship with her coach.

One thing I have liked in this series is, while Clare starts off with a fairy tale theme for the stories, she doesn’t let it tie her down to only framing her books in this series to a fairy tale.  Sometimes that can become too contrived.  I have also liked how Macie gives voice and personality to these characters throughout the series.

So, after tons of other stories this is going to be the world’s hottest wedding, right, the resolution of a lot of the angst throughout the series? Well, who can say? I enjoyed it and hope you do too. I enjoy the way the narrator has handled these characters through the series and how much fun they are to read.
