I voluntarily reviewed an advance readers copy of this book. No remuneration was exchanged and all opinions presented herein are my own except as noted.
Forgive him, Father, for Stephen Colbert has sinned. He knew it was wrong at the time. But he went ahead and did it anyway. Now he’s begging for forgiveness. Based on his popular segment from The Late Show, Stephen Colbert and his team of writers now reveal his most shameful secrets to millions (although, actually, he’d like you to not to tell anyone). Midnight Confessions is an illustrated collection of Stephen Colbert at his most brilliant and irreverent.
Wow! I didn’t realize we were calling comedy sketches from television “Books” now. I am glad I didn’t shell out my own money for the equivalent of an 35 minute segment of Stephen Colbert’s segment on THE LATE SHOW WITH STEPHEN COLBERT. Sure, he’s funny, and I have always admired his insight, but this is like listening to the show. Go to YouTube or the show website and you’ll probably find much of the same bits.
I also thought the actual bit was not up to Colbert’s usually hilarious work. Some of the “confessions,” all one-liners, felt repetitive. I have truly enjoyed him through the years, but I can’t believe this 35 minute performance is being sold as a book.
Having had to go to confession as a child I am familiar with the phenomenon.
