New York Times bestselling author Lynsay Sands brings the heat in this new Argeneau novel, as one woman is rescued by an irresistible immortal …

“Vampires…”

When Raffaele Notte pulls a barely dressed, disoriented woman from the ocean, the last thing he expects is for her to utter that word. The immortal has come to the island resort to help his cousin, but now, it seems, there are rogue vampires dining on unsuspecting tourists. And he soon realizes that not only is Jess a target, she’s also the life mate he’s been waiting for…

Vampires are real. Jess would’ve never believed it until she saw them with her own eyes. She knows she has to get off the island, and her gallant rescuer has offered to help. There’s something about Raffaele that’s unlike any man she has ever met, and his touch sends pleasure through her that is beyond all imagining. But when Jess discovers who he really is, will she risk life as she knows it for a chance of forever by his side? http://www.avonromance.com/book/9780062855138/vampires-like-it-hot-5/

My Take Oblong Shaped

I have felt this series should be winding up: the plots were becoming more and more predictable.  But, Lynsay seems to have pulled some interesting twists out of thin air, or since the story happens in the Caribbean, I should say thick, humid air.

I see they haven’t hinted at the twists in the blurb, which kind of screws up my ability to write about it — suffice it to say the nanos have some surprises up their their tiny, blood-fueled, sleeves. And, the usual bad guys, the “rogues” aren’t really as bad as they seem.

Lynsay looks at a co-relative variable to what an immortal lifemate, brought up to cherish their lifemate and waiting for to meet the perfect mate for their immortal life.  The nanos, that created the immortals are programmed to choose the perfect life mate for an immortal.  But Raffaele and Jess are going to have some obstacles to get through, especially since Jess has seen the worst that vampires can do.

It also looks at vampire politics; we’re used to the lovely North American immortal council with a Canadian Argeneau at the helm.  Even the European council is filled with people who are much the same.  But the South and Central American councils may not be so noble.  Seeing that now it may be a bit hemisphere-biased.

Another point of interest is that while sex has always been an important feature of the series, it seems as if Jess is a little more prudish than previous lifemate characters and, in general, Sands seems to have pulled back on the importance of the sex part of lifemates. There seems to be less sex here and the sex they have is just good, clean fun.  After all, they’re lifemates.  There’s still a lot of sex, it just feels like less of it.

If you have enjoyed the series this is the logical next step, if you aren’t a fan yet, you may love it but I wouldn’t start with this book, number 28 for heaven’s sake.  Read at least a couple of the earlier books first.
